This is likely because the classes do not meet General Studies or Major requirements for the program to which you are applying. I DIDN’T HAVE TO TAKE SPANISH IN COLLEGE BECAUSE I TOOK IT IN HIGH SCHOOL – DO I HAVE TO TAKE IT WITH YOU? Yes. However, students may take a CLEP exam to satisfy the foreign language requirement. See the catalog for test information and required scores. WHY ARE THERE SO FEW ELECTIVE CREDITS? Students must complete a minimum of 60-70 units for A.A./A.S. (depending on program) and 120 units for B.A. WHY WAS I NOT GIVEN UPPER-DIVISION CREDIT FOR SOME LOWER-DIVISION COURSES? LAPU does not accept lower-division coursework to meet upper-division requirements (see the catalog for more information). HOW MANY CREDITS CAN I TRANSFER IN FOR AN ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE? FOR A BACHELOR’S? Transfer limits are as follows: LAPU accepts no more than 70 units from a two-year school and no more than 90 units from a four-year school. LAPU caps the number of elective units accepted at 15 units for A.A./A.S. and 30 units for B.A. (see the catalog for more information). WHY HAVEN’T ALL MY CREDITS TRANSFERRED OVER? Requirements for LAPU’s programs may differ from the requirements for other schools and degrees. WILL THE LAPU REQUIRED AND BIBLE CLASSES TRANSFER TO NON-CHRISTIAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES? Generally speaking, these LAPU courses will transfer in as electives, but we always encourage students to check with the receiving school in order to guarantee transfer. WILL THESE CLASSES FULFILL UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AND CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS? Yes, certain LAPU classes will meet certain General Studies requirements, but we always encourage students to check with the receiving school in order to guarantee transfer. WILL MY CREDITS TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SCHOOL OR UNIVERSITY? All of LAPU’s courses are highly transferable because they are regionally accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), the same agency that accredits the University of California and California State University institutions. However, it is up to the discretion of the receiving school/university as to what (or how many) credits will transfer in. In particular, if you are looking at specific nursing or health programs, it is imperative that you FIRST confirm with that school and program to determine if they will accept online prerequisite courses (for example, online science courses with hands-on, “wet” labs). WHEN DO I GET TO START TAKING MY MAJOR CLASSES? Students can take major coursework at any time providing they have met any course prerequisites. HOW MANY CREDITS DO I HAVE TO HAVE TO ENROLL WITH LAPU? There is no maximum/minimum amount of credits required to apply. However, if you have less than 6 transferable college units, you must also submit official high school/GED transcripts. - FAFSA Simplification Act | Los Angeles Pacific University
Learn about the FAFSA Simplification Act and how it impacts federal student aid. Find out key changes, new requirements, and what students need to know at LAPU. FAFSA Simplification Act What’s Changing Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID Beginning with the 2024-25 FAFSA, all users/contributors must have an FSA ID and password to fill out the FAFSA, even those who don’t have a Social Security Number (SSN). Those without a SSN, however, cannot yet create an FSA ID. We expect this access to become available around the same time the FAFSA is released. Processing your FSA ID can take up to 5 business days, so we recommend creating it at least a week before you start your FAFSA. Contributors : A contributor refers to anyone who is required to provide information on a student’s FAFSA, including the student, the student’s spouse, a biological or adopted parent, or the parent’s spouse. Being a contributor does not imply responsibility for the student’s college costs. You, the student, will need the contributor’s name, date of birth, Social Security Number (SSN), and email address to invite them to complete the required portion of your FAFSA. Contributors will need to provide personal and financial information on their section of your FAFSA. They will be able to see and complete only their own specific section of your FAFSA. All contributors must provide consent to have their federal tax information transferred directly from the IRS to the FAFSA. If consent is not provided by all parties, you will not be eligible for federal financial aid. In previous years, transferring IRS data was optional; moving forward, it’s required. Which Parent to Use in Divorced/Separated Situations: If your parents are divorced or separated, the contributing parent(s) is the parent (and their spouse, if remarried) who provided the greater portion of your financial support during the 12 months immediately prior to filing the FAFSA. It no longer will default to the parent you primarily lived with during the past 12 months. Family Size and Number in College: The number of people in your family will be automatically pulled in from your federal tax information. The number of family members in college will still be asked on the FAFSA, but it will be excluded from the federal, state, and institutional financial aid calculation. Small Business and Farm Assets: The net worth of any small business and/or farm assets must be included on the FAFSA. Remember, net worth = asset value – asset debt. Terminology: EFC > SAI The final figure calculated by the FAFSA will no longer be called the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Rather, it will be called the Student Aid Index (SAI) to more accurately describe how that number is used to determine financial aid eligibility. Student Aid Report (SAR) > FAFSA Submission Summary Similarly, the SAR, which is the confirmation of what’s been submitted, will now be referred to as the FAFSA Submission Summary.
