The History

In 1965, Azusa Pacific College emerged as a new name among institutions of higher learning in Southern California. Two independent schools, Azusa College (founded in 1899 as the Training School for Christian Workers) and Los Angeles Pacific College (founded in 1903 as the L.A. Free Methodist Seminary) merged to form the new college. In 1968, Arlington College of Long Beach, California, merged with Azusa Pacific College. In 1981, Azusa Pacific's breadth of academic and co-curricular programs qualified the college for university status. In 2011, University College at Azusa Pacific University (formerly Azusa Pacific Online University) was created in response to the growing demographic of students who aspire to further their education but are unable to attend traditional campus-based courses. In 2018, University College was separately accredited as Los Angeles Pacific University. Following a season of innovation and advancement in online learning capabilities, Los Angeles Pacific University was renamed to Azusa Pacific University Global, creating a unified home for fully online education within the Azusa Pacific University ecosystem. More than a century after their founding, Azusa Pacific University and Azusa Pacific University Global serve as comprehensive Christian, evangelical universities dedicated to supporting God First and excellence in higher education. Together, these institutions continue to prepare disciples and scholars to advance the work of God in the world.
